Colours

Colours – makeup and hair project

Andy asked me if we could create pastel coloured hair for this shoot. We couldn’t dye the hair and so I had to think of a way to get a really strong colour pay off.

After some experimenting, I decided I didn’t want to use coloured hair spray, too messy and looks too dull and powdery. I mixed non-toxic kids poster paint with gel to create this look. I experimented on my own hair to make sure it washed out ok and gave a bold enough colour.

I love the way the gel sets and gives the poster paint texture - it doesn’t just look like a solid helmet. I also love the straight lines created by these hairstyles. Paired with Andy’s genius lighting they look striking and unusual, almost like they could be cut around and just stuck on top of their heads.

I loved coming up with a creative solution for this shoot.
